River Users Group
So what is the RUG?
- The River Users Group is a method of encouraging communication and cooperation between river users and the river authorities.
Our part of the Thames comes under RUG region "8" ("RUG8").
Each reach of the Thames is numbered. Our reach - Shepperton Lock to Sunbury Lock - is no.18. The neighbouring reach Chertsey-Shepperton - no.19 - is relatively short and sparsely populated, so for convenience both reaches 18 & 19 come under the same reach coordinator.
- Reaches 18 & 19 currently have two joint-coordinators. They are Di Lawler from Elmbridge Canoe Club and Carl Boon of Weybridge Rowing Club. Assisted by Dick Thompson, former reach coordinator, they have produced a diary of events which aims to ensure that events don't clash and helps the EA keep track of what's happening on the river. All clubs and companies operating on reaches 18 & 19 are encouraged to print off a copy and display it in their clubhouses or offices.
- Any changes to the diary should be advised to a reach coordinator as soon as possible. Contact details are at the top of the sheet.
